Is it time to get excited as HTC plans to make a comeback in the smartphone market?
Remember HTC? The company that launched good-looking phones like the HTC One and Wildfire is planning to make a comeback in the smartphone market, and in 2024 we might see something tangible. The company has launched its phones in select markets in recent years, but plans to intensify its focus on the market next year, as highlighted by the company’s global marketing manager.
HTC plans to release more than a few phones each year, which may not sound like much compared to other established brands, but it still means something to HTC. It no longer sells phones in countries like India, where even Sony has also exited with its Xperia series.
HTC had to slow down its mobile division after it was sold to Google many years ago, which led to the birth of the Google Pixel line. HTC has struggled to lead the division after losing its core mobile team, instead building more products like the HTC Vive to compete in the mixed reality category. But this week’s new developments are sure to get people excited about a brand that has been making phones at its best. So where does HTC see itself competing in the mobile phone market?
According to the company director’s statements, HTC wants to bring the phones to the mid-range segment, where it could use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen series chipset. It seems that the brand does not want to enter the flagship market, where it would have to rely on Snapdragon 8 Gen chipsets, which are expensive.
All of this means that HTC has to compete with brands like Nothing and OnePlus, rather than Apple and Samsung, which was the case for many years.
